How Do You Balance Your Life?

Our employees have had to do some mandatory OT . . . .

SQL and a Trailer?

I received a resume this week that was unusual.  It was a picture of a trailer.  A nice family style trailer.  Below the picture were the words "Have SQL will travel."  SQL is a technical language used by computer people; you can read more about it here.  This candidate travels around the country with his 26 foot trailer for SQL consulting gigs.  This is the first time I have ever seen a picture of a trailer in a resume . . . . it was interesting to say the least.

How to Tell if a Candidate Lacks Social Skills?

If he answers his cell phone during an interview not once, not twice but three times during the an interview, the candidate may lack social skills.  A candidate this week interviewed for an executive level job with a base salary of $250k plus bonus. Some people are so intelligent but don't have any social skills; sad really, quite sad.

An Honest Candidate

I am all for honesty.  I am all for honesty during an interview.  I am all for honesty at work.  I am all for honesty in life.  Sometimes though it isn't important to share all your cards with your interviewer.  I offered a candidate a job and he told me that he would have to think about the offer.  Okay, fine.  Take a day and think ove

Employee's Baggage

I haven't been here on Yipitee for a few weeks because life has been crazy busy.  When I started this blog my intent was to blog five days a week.  My work has been very demanding of my time, not to mention my brain cells.  I guess we all get sucked in by our work from time to time.  I have been recruiting and interviewing like there is no tomorrow.

Should Employees Receive Annual Pay Increases?

We have employees who feel they deserve an annual pay increase by virtue of being employed with us.  Sorry - that's not how as roll.  I had the privilege of enlightening a few employees today that their thinking is not in line with our company's values.  Employees earn pay increases; they don't receive pay increases for clocking time.

Perks at Work?

Driving home after school drop-off this morning I was listening to a morning talk show on the radio.  The DJ asked his listeners "What would be a perk at work for you?"  People were calling in with various perk suggestions:

  •  Free child care located on premises

Personal Fundraisers
